Margaret Obermeier Ryckman
Margaret’s funeral will be held on June 27 at 11:30 am in the church.
Margaret Dorothy Obermeier was born in Shrewsbury Missouri, the seventh of eight children in an affectionate, hardworking, and devout Catholic family. She had a happy childhood, which included frequent large and lively gatherings of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In childhood, and throughout her life, she was energized by the outdoors, whether relishing the competition and camaraderie of sports, caring for all she planted in her large and lush yard, or simply relaxing in nature. Margaret made friends everywhere life took her, and maintained those relationships with kindness and dedication. Ever curious about people met in any circumstance and place, she was quick to engage in conversation, drawing out personal details in minutes. She was always ready for fun in spirited activities and travel experiences, all best shared with others and captured in plentiful photos.
Margaret married the love of her life and favorite dance partner, Donald King Ryckman Sr., at the tender age of 19. Thus began an adventure together that would challenge her to adapt and grow over 54 years of marriage, fifteen moves over four states, with four children and a trailer of household goods in tow. She was a devoted and selfless mother. Everywhere life and employment took them, she worked tirelessly to make a comfortable home, where fresh homemade meals were served, and all were welcome. She loved to dance, and when a “good one” began to play, she was up and moving to the music, just as happily in the kitchen around the table as in the dance hall.
She will be remembered as a loving mom by her children: Michele Ryckman, Cynthia Ryckman White (husband Michael), Donald “Buck” Ryckman Jr. (wife Robin), Mary Ryckman Uhl (husband Robert); her grandchildren: Madeline White Ramirez, Andrew White, and Elisabeth White Avery; Kathryn Ryckman, Elizabeth Ryckman Joplin, and Emma Ryckman Jonas; Matthew, Charles, and Joseph Uhl; and her great grandchildren, Zoe, Chloe, Stratton, Barron, and William. She will live on in stories told by numerous nieces and nephews, and by longtime cherished friends.
Margaret was a proud founding member of St. Francis of Assisi in San Antonio. Elemental and integral to her life was her Catholic faith, honored in mass attendance, service in church ministries, the gift of sacraments, and the comfort of praying the rosary. She often expressed curiosity about what heaven is like. Now, at last, she knows.
