James Phillip Simmons, age 62, passed away on May 26, 2025, in Ball, Louisiana. He was surrounded by his sons, family, and friends when he left us. Jim was a wonderful father, brother, uncle, son, friend, and colleague. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed dearly.
Jim was born on October 27, 1962, to parents Mary and Talmadge Simmons. He grew up in Shavano Park with his brothers and sister. He was a graduate of Tom C. Clark High School in San Antonio, Texas. Jim’s whole world revolved around his family, sons, sports, and the great outdoors. He always talked about traveling to Florida to spend time with family on his dad’s side. He also loved going to visit family at his grandparents’ farm in Devine, TX. Jim was actively involved in the lives of his two sons. He volunteered a lot of his time coaching youth soccer, basketball, and baseball. He also assisted the Warren Warrior Band (“Purple Pride from Northside”) with driving and transporting equipment. He would also transport the Warrior Mascot displayed at the football games on Friday nights. He loved watching Bryan and Nathan do their thing in sports or band.
Jim was a huge supporter of his favorite sports teams. He loved watching his Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Astros, and Texas Longhorns. Jim also enjoyed NASCAR. We made sure to get off the computer by 11:00 AM every Sunday because we knew, “Yep, it’s NASCAR time again.” Jim also loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed going hunting with his friends and his sons. In his last few years, he enjoyed his time in Louisiana with one of his dearest friends, Mike Timothy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Talmadge Simmons, brother, Richard Louis Simmons, grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his two sons, Bryan and Nathan Simmons, his brothers, sister, their families, two aunts, and numerous cousins.
